Overview

Ashley Poindexter represents clients in complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts and in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

Ashley began her legal career as an associate in the Grand Rapids office of a large business law firm where she managed more than thirty first party no-fault insurance defense cases. She has varied experience in all phases of the litigation process including presenting at case evaluations and facilitations, participating in negotiations and settlement discussions, participating in pre-trial and motion hearings, and drafting motions, pleadings, briefs, case evaluation summaries, demand letters, and memos.

She has a particular interest in legal issues surrounding the operation of autonomous and connected vehicles. As a law student, Ashley served as a research assistant to Michigan State University Law Professor Nicholas Wittner where she helped author a textbook chapter and law review article on autonomous vehicle issues.

Ashley earned her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law where she was a recipient of the Trustees Scholarship and the Bernard J. Fieger Scholarship. She earned many academic awards including 1st Place Oralist in the MSU Law Final Moot Court Competition and 2nd Place Overall in the Appellate Lawyers Association 2019 Moot Court Competition. She was selected for the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Team in 2018.

Ashley is a former Law Clerk to the Hon. Michelle M. Rick of the 29th Circuit Court in Gratiot County, Michigan. She also served as Trial Practice Institute Technology Assistant to the Hon. David McKeague of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Before becoming an attorney, she worked as a Business Processes Coordinator for a global provider of engineering software and services. She also worked in marketing and exhibit coordination with the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

Ashley earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan where she was elected Captain of the Michigan Mock Trial Team and served as a member of the Michigan Equestrian Team.
