As a member of Bodman’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation and Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Groups, Ms. Van Sumeren represents employers and benefit plan service providers on ERISA issues, benefit plan arrangements, and related civil litigation.
While in law school, Ms. Van Sumeren served as a federal judicial intern with the Hon. David W. McKeague of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and with the Hon. Henry E. Hudson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She also served as a legal intern with the Henrico County (Virginia) Attorney’s office and worked as a research assistant with the University of Michigan Law School where she conducted research on employment and hiring practices.
She served as Articles Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi international legal honor society.
As an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, Ms. Van Sumeren was a member of the university’s Equestrian Team. She has worked with the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan as a riding instructor, helping young riders develop proper horsemanship skills.
