Overview

Mr. Zatz represents financial institutions and other clients in real estate and lending transactions. He has over 40 years of in-house and law firm experience providing lending and real estate related legal services. He is skilled in drafting, negotiation, risk identification, management, and process development and implementation.

Before joining Bodman, Mr. Zatz served as a senior vice president and associate general counsel for Comerica Bank. At Comerica Bank, Mr. Zatz managed the legal department’s Transactional Group, Real Estate Group, Real Estate Facilities Group, and Contract Administration Group.

Mr. Zatz is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2024 and is AV Preeminent® Peer Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He has lectured for the Michigan State Bar’s Real Property Law Section, ICLE, and other organizations on a variety of real estate topics. He is a former chairperson, vice chairperson, and legislative liaison for the Commercial Real Estate Finance Committee of the Michigan State Bar’s Real Property Law Section and a former chairperson and vice chairperson of the Consumer Credit Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.

Mr. Zatz is active in pro bono legal services, having acted as a volunteer lawyer for numerous Michigan Community Resources projects, including the Community Land Trust Project, the Affordability Preservation Project, the Retention of Occupancy on Foreclosure (ROOF) Project, the Foreclosure Limitation Owner Occupancy and Recovery (FLOOR) Project, and the Detroit Works Legal Team. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Michigan Community Resources.
