Three Experienced Banking Attorneys Join Bodman PLC

Bodman is pleased to announce that three experienced banking attorneys – Eric C. Bartley, Brian P. Foley, and Chelsey L. Marsh – have joined the firm as members based in the Detroit office.

All three are members of Bodman’s Banking Practice Group. They practiced previously in the Troy, Michigan office of a national business law firm.

The new attorneys add even more depth to Bodman’s market-leading banking law practice, which is ranked at the highest level for quality and service by the highly respected global law firm rating services Chambers USA and IFLR1000.

“Banking is one of Bodman’s signature practice areas, and the addition of these talented attorneys further enhances our ability to serve financial institutions on a national basis,” said Bodman Chair Carrie Leahy. “We are thrilled to have them join us.”

Bartley specializes in complex commercial real estate finance transactions for national bank and non-bank lenders on both portfolio investments and investments intended for securitization in the capital markets. He has served as lead counsel for clients in commercial mortgage originations and the related negotiation of intercreditor and participation agreements on projects across the country. He has extensively counseled lenders on structuring commercial real estate loans to high net worth individuals and represents clients on the sale and acquisition of whole loans and loan portfolios and on the workout and restructuring of distressed commercial real estate assets.

Bartley is a magna cum laude graduate of Michigan State University College of Law and earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from Illinois State University. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America under Real Estate Law and Mortgage Banking and Foreclosure Law. He is admitted to the bar in both California and Michigan.

Foley represents financial institutions, companies, and individuals in real estate matters, with an emphasis on commercial real estate secured financing transactions. He also regularly advises clients, as both lead and local counsel, in purchases and sales of real property including sales of lender owned property, real estate workouts and foreclosures, loan sales, leasing transactions, and other general real estate matters.

Foley is a cum laude graduate of Wayne State University Law School and holds a Master’s degree from Michigan State University and an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College. He serves as president of the board of directors of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center. Foley is admitted to the bar in Indiana and Michigan.

Marsh represents national, regional and local financial institutions, companies and individuals in commercial real estate finance transactions, including construction financing, across the country. She also represents entities and individuals in a broad array of real estate transactions, including the leasing, acquisition and disposition of office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties.

Marsh is a magna cum laude graduate of Wayne State University Law School and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. She is recognized as a leader in real estate law by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch. Marsh is admitted to the bar in both California and Michigan.
