The National Pro Bono Celebration focuses the nation’s attention on the increased need for pro bono services during these challenging economic times and celebrates the outstanding work of lawyers who volunteer their services throughout the year. According to ABA President Laurel Bellows, “It is essential that the entire legal community engage in conversation and action that results in equal access to justice for all. The energy generated by the National Pro Bono Celebration is a powerful force that helps us build a just legal system.”

The National Pro Bono Celebration also provides an opportunity for Bodman to reaffirm its commitment to the firm’s active, award-winning pro bono program. Recent highlights of the pro bono program include the following.

  • Through the third quarter of 2012, Bodman attorneys and paralegals have provided more than 2,600 hours of pro bono services.
  • The Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD) has just named Bodman’s Karen L. Piper Pro Bono Attorney of the Year for 2012 for her long-term commitment to pro bono service.
  • Through the efforts of Andrew M. LaBreche, Bodman partnered with the 36th District Court and Street Democracy to co-found Street Outreach Court, a program that works to provide homeless individuals with a fresh start.
  • In October 2012, Bodman hired a full-time Pro Bono Counsel, Kimberly A. Paulson, to manage and expand the firm’s pro bono program, demonstrating the firm’s continued commitment to pro bono service.
