Pro Bono Spotlight: Nashara Peart Supports Pro Bono Client in Overdue Payment Dispute
Congratulations to Nashara Peart, who supported her pro bono client, Ms. Wright, in the long-overdue payment battle with a previous landlord.
In 2000, Ms. Wright received a judgment against a bad landlord who overcharged her in rent and other fees. The landlord refused to pay the judgment for several years. After trying multiple methods to recover the judgment, including setting up a creditor exam, submitting tax garnishments, and filing liens on properties, there was little hope that Ms. Wright would receive payment in full.
Nashara never gave up and continued to reach out to the landlord directly to demand payment. Soon enough, the landlord not only started responding, but started making payments towards the outstanding judgment, even including recently making two large payments that totally paid off the judgment just before the start of the holiday season.
Ms. Wright shared, “My time working with Nashara was absolutely excellent, it was amazing. From the beginning, they didn’t know if it would be possible to get my deposit back, but Nashara was always respectful and sensitive and never gave up. I consider myself blessed to have had her and to have been able to work with such amazing legal professionals.”
