Bodman Places Highest Among Michigan Law Firms on NLJ500 Women's Scorecard

By: Bodman PLC

10/01/19

Bodman PLC is pleased to announce that it has received the most favorable rating of any Michigan-based firm appearing on the National Law Journal 2019 Women’s Scorecard, an annual analysis of gender diversity at large law firms.

The National Law Journal compiles the Women’s Scorecard by evaluating demographic data provided by the 350 largest law firms nationally. Of the 271 firms that participated in the 2019 survey, Bodman placed 23rd.

Of the other eight law firms with a significant Michigan presence that appear on the 2019 Women’s Scorecard, none ranked higher than 142nd.

“We are proud of this rating, as striving to maintain a work environment where all of our colleagues feel that they are welcome and have an opportunity to succeed is one of our core values” stated Larry Shulman, Bodman’s chairman.

As part of Bodman’s commitment, the firm has maintained a standing Diversity and Inclusion Committee for more than a decade and recently hired a full-time director of diversity who will help guide and administer the firm’s efforts.

“We are committed to building and maintaining a diverse workplace and we believe that these results indicate that we are making progress,” said Carrie Leahy, Bodman’s chair-elect.

To compile the Women’s Scorecard, The National Law Journal assigns a numerical score to each firm by adding the percentage of all female attorneys, not including contract or temporary attorneys, to the percentage of female partners. In the case of a tie, the firm with the higher percentage of female equity partners is given the higher position on the list.
