Bodman PLC Named Legal Aid and Defender Law Firm of the Year
11/10/14
Bodman PLC is pleased to announce that it has been named Law Firm of the Year for 2014 by Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD).
LAD is Michigan’s largest provider of free civil legal assistance, serving metropolitan Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
Bodman will be honored with a “Laddy” award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to LAD. The award will be presented on Tuesday, November 18 at the Theodore Levin United States Courthouse in Detroit.
“We are proud of our long relationship with LAD and the opportunities it provides for us to give back to the community,” said Bodman Chairman Ralph E. McDowell. “This is a wonderful tribute to the many Bodman attorneys who donate their time and expertise to LAD and its clients.”
In announcing the award, LAD noted Bodman’s support of the organization’s pro se divorce clinic in Wayne County since 2008. Bodman attorneys participate each month in the pro se clinic, making presentations to LAD clients and helping the clients prepare pro se pleadings. In the past three years alone, Bodman attorneys have devoted 646 hours to the clinic.
The LAD award is the latest in a string of honors garnered by Bodman’s extensive pro bono program, including a national pro bono award from the peer-review publication Super Lawyers and enrollment in the State Bar of Michigan’s Pro Bono Circle of Excellence for 2014.
