Bodman Welcomes Five New Attorneys

Bodman is pleased to announce that Fatmeh T. Cheaib, Lily A. Indenbaum, Joseph R. Haddad, Matthew R. Fleming and Katherine A. Smigelski have joined the firm as associate attorneys.

All five are based in Bodman’s Detroit office.

Cheaib is a member of Bodman’s Banking Practice Group. She represents financial institutions in connection with the negotiation and documentation of commercial loan originations.

Chaeib is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree magna cum laude at Wayne State University.  As a law student she earned many academic honors including multiple dean’s list honors, the Best Oralist Award at the Patrick A. Keenan Appellate Moot Court Competition, the Jason Long Award for Excellence in Source Checking, multiple Book Awards, the Detroit Mercy Law Fellows Award and Scholarship, the Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence, and the Hon. Karen Fort Hood Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Scholarship. She was selected as the sole 2022 law graduate to receive the Vivere ex Missione Award which honors a student who exemplifies the mission of the University of Detroit Mercy by demonstrating a commitment to service.

Indenbaum is a member of Bodman’s High Net Worth Practice Group.  She represents high net worth individuals in estate planning and estate administration matters and in a wide range of personal business matters.

Indenbaum is a cum laude graduate of Wayne State University Law School. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. Before joining Bodman as an associate attorney, Indenbaum participated in the firm’s summer associate program. At Wayne State University Law School, she won the Gold Key Scholarship Award for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years. She was treasurer of the Jewish Law Student Association, a member of the Women’s Law Caucus, and served as a mentor to incoming first-year law students. She also served as an intern to Hon. Linda Parker of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and as an intern to Hon. David A. Groner of the Third Judicial Circuit Court.

Haddad is a member of Bodman’s High Net Worth Practice Group. He represents high net worth individuals in connection with estate planning, trust and estate administration, and other matters related to tax planning and business ventures.

Haddad is a cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree in finance from Michigan State University. Before joining Bodman as an associate attorney Haddad worked as a law clerk with the firm’s High Net Worth Group where he participated in the representation of individual clients in connection with estate planning and personal business transactions. As a law student, Haddad earned the Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence and served as president of the Business Law Society. He also served as a Judicial Extern for the Hon. Christopher M. Murray, chief judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Fleming is a member of Bodman’s Real Estate Practice Group. He represents businesses and individual clients as buyers or sellers in connection with complex commercial and significant residential real estate transactions, including land acquisition, financing, land development and leasing, and general real property management.

Fleming is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School. He earned his undergraduate degree, with high honors, at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Before joining Bodman as an associate attorney, he participated in the firm’s summer associate program.  As a law student, Fleming served as associate editor of the Journal of Law in Society and as 1L Liaison for the Entrepreneurship and Business Law Society. As an undergraduate at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, he earned a number of academic honors, including the Chancellor’s Medallion, the university’s highest academic honor. He also served as a research assistant in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and co-authored several articles and a book on contemporary topics in Sociology.

Smigelski is a member of Bodman’s Banking Practice Group. She represents financial institutions in connection with commercial loan originations.

Smigelski is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School. She earned her undergraduate degree, with honors, at Grand Valley State University. As a law student, Smigelski served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Gershwin Drain of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was awarded the Full Merit Scholarship and won the Silver Key Award for academic excellence for the Fall 2020 through Spring 2022 terms. She was assistant editor and production editor of the Wayne Law Review, chaired the Jaffe Transactional Law Competition, served on the Student Board of Governors, and was president of the Federalist Society—Wayne State Student Chapter.
