Bodman PLC, one of Michigan’s leading business law firms, is pleased to announce that Floyd E. Gates, Jr. has joined the firm as a member and will lead a new Grand Rapids office, effective today.
Gates has more than 18 years of legal experience with a focus on litigation and corporate law. His clients include financial institutions, insurance carriers, and a broad range of businesses that reflect the diversity of the West Michigan economy.
“We are excited to have Floyd join us and help to establish our Grand Rapids office. Floyd’s legal expertise, deep relationships in the local business community and varied experience make him a great fit for our firm,” stated Bodman PLC Chairman Ralph E. McDowell.
Gates will be a member of Bodman’s Banking, Business, and Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Groups, which are among the largest and most highly rated in Michigan. He has represented banks in workout and related litigation and the investigation and resolution of complex fraud schemes involving hundreds of millions of dollars in potential claims.
Gates also served for twelve years in the United States Army Reserve as a communications specialist attached to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and as a legal specialist attached to a Judge Advocate General (JAG) office. He is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and earned his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University.
“Grand Rapids presents a growth opportunity for Bodman as we have a number of clients with offices and operations in West Michigan. Our new Grand Rapids office will allow us to serve these clients with even better responsiveness and efficiency,” stated McDowell.
The new Bodman Grand Rapids office is temporarily located at the Calder Plaza Building, 250 Monroe Avenue NW, Suite 400, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. It is Bodman’s fifth office, joining the firm’s Detroit headquarters and full-service offices in Troy, Ann Arbor and Cheboygan, Michigan.
