Bodman’s Barbara Bowman Selected for Legal Services Corporation 2025 Pro Bono Award

By: Bodman PLC

07/22/25

Bodman PLC is pleased to share that Bodman attorney Barbara A. Bowman was recently selected to receive the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) 2025 Pro Bono Service Award.

LSC is an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974. For more than 50 years, LSC has provided financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. The Corporation currently provides funding to 130 independent nonprofit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The Pro Bono Service Awards is presented annually to four attorneys and a law firm for their significant contributions to promoting access to justice through volunteer services.

In announcing the award, LSC noted that it selected Bowman because she is “a dedicated volunteer with Michigan Advocacy Program [having] closed over 100 pro bono cases since 2021. Her contributions—ranging from case screening to representation at hearings—have played a vital role in helping the organization support thousands of Michigan residents seeking help with expungement.”

Bowman is of counsel to Bodman and a member of the Banking and Finance, Business, and Municipal and Government Relations practices. She has counseled clients on compliance with federal and state securities laws with respect to a variety of matters, including initial public offerings, secondary offerings, private investment companies, acquisitions, and mergers. She also counsels officers and directors of public companies regarding compliance with their reporting and other requirements under the federal securities laws, including corporate governance requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

The Best Lawyers in America named Bowman the 2019 Troy “Lawyer of the Year” for Banking & Finance. She has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2013 under Banking and Finance, Municipal, and Securities/Capital Markets and is listed as a 2025 “Top Lawyer” by DBusiness Magazine for Public Finance Law.
