By: Bodman PLC

09/08/21

Bodman PLC is pleased to announce that attorney Erin M. Haney has joined the firm as an associate in the Grand Rapids office.

Haney is a member of Bodman’s Business Practice Group. She practiced previously with a large West Michigan-based business law firm.

Haney is also a certified public accountant and a former senior auditor for the Michigan Department of Treasury. She has handled Michigan tax compliance and controversy matters from both the government and taxpayer perspectives. Her background in state and local tax (SALT) matters includes representing clients in multi-jurisdictional compliance matters ranging from apportionment and revenue sourcing to navigation of nexus and filing requirements. At the federal level, she has successfully assisted clients in navigating IRS notices and exams, disputing audit findings and assessments, addressing tax liens, and remedying past compliance issues.

Before becoming an attorney, Haney served as a tax consultant for a global accounting firm. She is recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch as an up and coming practitioner in tax law.

She is a magna cum laude graduate of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and holds both B.A. and B.B.A. degrees from Grand Valley State University. As a law student, she served as preemption and screening editor for the WMU Cooley Law Review.

Haney is a member of the board of directors of Servants Center, a nonprofit that provides street outreach and ongoing support services to poor and homeless people in Grand Rapids.
