David Ederer has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate law, with a particular focus on the negotiation of leases with national and regional retailers.
He has represented both landlords and tenants. His landlord clients have included a national real estate management firm that is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and many local and regional developers. His work on behalf of tenants has included negotiating leases and other agreements for some of the nation’s largest retail and restaurant chains with the Mall of America, Disney World, Aventura Mall in Miami, and other major landlords.
Before rejoining Bodman in 2025, Mr. Ederer practiced with the real estate group at a prominent Florida-based law firm. In that role, he regularly represented both landlords and tenants in the structuring of complex and sophisticated leasing transactions of all sizes. He previously maintained his own legal practice in Grand Rapids, owned and managed a franchise business, and served as a member and general counsel for The Encore Companies, a real estate development and management firm. As general counsel, he negotiated leases with major retailers, structured corporate transactions, managed reporting and compliance for nineteen limited liability companies, and managed all legal issues involved in the development of more than 1.1 million square feet of new retail space within a three-year period.
His diverse business background also includes experience working as a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) before attending law school.
