Overview

Jennifer Black counsels nonprofit and other tax-exempt organizations and the investors who support them on a broad range of legal, operational, and compliance or administrative issues. She leverages both her legal training and her years of experience working in senior administrative roles with nonprofit organizations to provide her clients with practical and effective advice.

She has significant experience working with hospitals, academic medical centers, health systems, research institutions, long-term care providers, health care providers, research consortiums, and nonprofit organizations on a wide range of regulatory, strategic, and transactional projects. Immediately before joining Bodman, Jennifer served as a Compliance and Project Manager at a nonprofit health policy and research center. In this role, she offered consulting services, strategic advice, programmatic support, and project management for the establishment and operation of community care networks and hubs. She has also worked with local, state, and federal agencies, in grants and contracting, and on matters of governance and administration.

Jenifer began her legal career as Associate for an AmLaw 50 law firm where she advised health care, research, and academic organizations on regulatory, transactional, and compliance matters including governance, strategy, government investigations, licensure, clinical research, data privacy, mergers, and affiliations. She also served as in-house counsel for a Michigan-based nonprofit health system and as a staff attorney for a non-profit regional pediatric specialty health care center based in Nebraska.

As a law student at the University of Michigan, Jennifer was a student attorney for the University of Michigan’s Pediatric Advocacy Clinic where she provided pro bono legal services to clients in Washtenaw County through a medical-legal partnership and assisted clients with housing, family law, special education, and public benefits matters.
