Overview

Katherine Smigelski is a member of Bodman’s Banking Practice Group. She focuses her practice on representing financial institutions in connection with commercial loan originations.

She has experience in bilateral and syndicated commercial lending transactions, commercial real estate lending transactions, and borrowing and re-financing investment transactions with private equity firms.

Katherine is currently a member of Bodman’s Associate Advisory Committee.

Before joining Bodman she practiced with another Southeast Michigan-based law firm where she gained experience in corporate transactions, municipal law, and constitutional law matters.

As a law student, Katherine served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Gershwin Drain of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was Assistant Editor and Production Editor of the Wayne Law Review, chaired the Jaffe Transactional Law Competition, served on the Student Board of Governors, and was President of the Federalist Society—Wayne State Student Chapter. She also worked as a corporate counsel extern with an engineering and manufacturing company where she analyzed and recommended changes to various commercial contracts and leases, including contracts governed by foreign law. She was a Full Merit Scholarship recipient throughout law school and won the Silver Key Award for academic excellence for the Fall 2020 through Spring 2022 terms.

She is the author of “Zooming into the Future: Virtual International Arbitration in the Post-COVID World,” 67 Wayne L. Rev. 429 (2021).
