As a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, John (Jack) Kelly represents businesses and financial institutions in connection with commercial and industrial real estate transactions and in real estate finance matters.
He also represents individual clients in connection with the purchase and sale of significant personal residences.
Before joining Bodman as an associate attorney, Mr. Kelly worked as a summer associate with the firm, gaining exposure to a broad variety of clients and legal issues.
While in law school, he served as a judicial extern to Hon. Robert E. Gordon of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, where he analyzed appellate briefs, drafted opinions on substantive and procedural civil law issues, and drafted orders in criminal law cases, including matters involving improper conviction and sentencing. He also worked as a legal intern at a highly regarded suburban Detroit business and municipal law firm where he conducted legal research on environmental, municipal, and general civil law matters.
He also worked for a year with Legal Help for Veterans, where he interviewed prospective clients and assisted veterans in applying for benefits from the Veterans Administration.
At the University of Notre Dame Law School, he was on the staff of the Journal of Legislation and earned placement on the Dean’s Honor Roll in 2016. As an undergraduate at the University of Michigan he was honored as a James B. Angell Scholar.
