Pro Bono Spotlight: Jacqueline August Obtain Name Change For Pro Bono Client

Congratulations to Jacqueline August and her client, Ms. B., in successfully completing a legal name change.
Ms. B., who is transgender, contacted Fair Michigan Foundation, an organization dedicated to advocacy, education, and outreach regarding LGBTQ+ and men’s and women’s civil rights in Michigan, who connected her with Bodman and Jacky. Jacky assisted Ms. B. in navigating through the legal hurdles that must be overcome to complete an official name change. The hearing was before the Hon. Mary Beth Kelly of Wayne County Circuit Court and was successfully completed in August 2023.
Ms. B. shared, “Overall, I had an amazing experience with Bodman. I wanted to say thank you to Jacky August for being the amazing person that she is and for helping me with my case. It was an emotional process for me. Most girls in my community are not able to get their name changed because they don’t have the support needed to overcome the legal obstacles involved. I appreciate Bodman for believing in my community.”
